We use High Density
Polyethylene (HDPE) or PE pipe on most of our directional drilling projects. Polyethylene
pipe is suited for these installations because of its scratch tolerance and the
fused joining system, which gives a zero-leak-rate joint with design tensile capacity
equal to that of the pipe. (Sited from the Plastics Pipe Institute's PPI Handbook
of Polyethylene Piping chapter titled "Polyethylene Pipe for Horizontal Directional
Drilling.")
